FPTI Confident Veddriq Leonardo’s Olympic Gold Will Inspire Future Achievements
Jakarta — The Indonesian Sport Climbing Federation (FPTI) is celebrating Veddriq Leonardo’s historic gold medal in the speed climbing event at the 2024 Paris Olympics. According to FPTI Secretary General Wahyu Pristiawan Buntoro, this milestone is expected to serve as a powerful motivator for other Indonesian climbers to reach similar heights in international competitions.
“Veddriq’s success is a landmark moment for Indonesian climbing. We hope it ignites the spirit of achievement across the national climbing community,” Wahyu said on Friday (July 4).
Wahyu emphasized FPTI’s commitment to developing all three disciplines in sport climbing—speed, lead, and boulder—through a structured talent pipeline starting from youth categories up to senior levels. Equitable training programs across all regions of the country are also seen as vital for broad-based success.
He also stressed the importance of consistently sending athletes to international competitions as part of the federation’s long-term performance strategy.
In line with these efforts, FPTI has sent a contingent of 10 speed climbers to represent Indonesia at the 2025 IFSC Climbing World Cup in Krakow, Poland. The team, composed of five male and five female athletes, will compete in the qualification round on Saturday (July 5) at 6:00 PM WIB, held at Krakow Market Grand Square (Rynek Glowny). Successful qualifiers will advance to the final round on Sunday (July 6) at 5:00 PM WIB at the same venue.
